There is much confusion regarding size and weight of the Shih Tzu. According to the AKC Registry the Shih Tzu dimension characteristics are that the average weight is 9-16 pounds and the height is 9-11 inches at the withers. There is actually no recognition by the registries of a "Tea cup", "Imperial", or Stain Glass size Shih Tzu. NOW, because there has become a demand for a smaller size Shih Tzu, many breeders are producing smaller sizes and using the names of Tea cup and Imperial. I want to make sure there is no confusion. Because a puppy looks small and is more expensive, does not mean they are a registered as small. Many breeders are actually breeding the pups to the Yorkie or Pekinese to get the small size. We, like other breeders have many requests for the smaller Shih Tzu. We have spent 10 years working to have a consistant small size dog. We do not have any dogs that are bred with anything other than a Shih Tzu. This means if we put a puppy on the "Tiny Shih Tzu" page, the parents are both small Shih Tzus. IT IS NOT THE SMALLEST OF a large litter. Our desire is to continue to breed healthy, quality, and social puppies.
